Presups Are Miserable People
When your world is a fairy tale
Presuppositionalists are miserable people that operate in bad faith.
We all have presuppositions, such as the idea that we are real. Any argument has to start from a place of shared presuppositions, like the concept that we are two people having a conversation. From there, we can agree that it is possible to understand reality through our sense perception, which is really our mind trying to understand the universe.
Recently I’ve been listening to debates with Christian presup apologists. I warn you, this is a masochistic practice. Most presups are intent on leading an atheist or agnostic into a script, which guides the conversation toward a foregone conclusions, allowing the presup to declare victory. They hunger for atheist blood, without which they wither and die.
The main presup idea is that the only way to understand an intelligible world is through their god. They layer assumption upon assumption like an infinite layer cake of bullshit. What this practice truly illustrates is that the presup worldview is based on the love of absolutes. Without a world with sharply delineated good and evil, a presup crumbles. They require drama in order to live.
Let’s look at the idea of an intelligible world. We all understand what this means in terms of speech and writing. Intelligibility implies clarity, something we can understand. The presup says you can’t understand the world without god, and yet billions of people have. Understanding something doesn’t mean knowing everything about something. Scientists understand that they only know a fraction of a fraction of what makes the world tick. Science is the best method we have of understanding the nature of reality.
Presups hate specifics. Specificity unravels their web of bullshit. While truly curious people find the world around them fascinating, presups ignore the beauty found in nature in order to focus on the binary concept of good and evil.
Ultimately presups are a bunch of men that insist that nothing makes sense without god. Their god. The one they like. Presups are simply dressing up their intense biases in a cloak of pseudo-rationality, but if you ask for objective definitions of the terms they use, it all falls apart. They…
