Science and Spirituality May Not Be As Opposite As You Think

Researcher Ravi Kopparapu from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center notes that “It’s not a question of ‘if,’ it’s a question of ‘when’ we find life on other planets.” At some point in human history we will find evidence of extraterrestrial life in the universe. At this moment we are looking for exoplanets, planets that circle suns, that sit in a habitable zone that contains water. But in fact life on another planet may use a solvent other than water, and it may utilize molecular chemistry very different than life on our planet, which has evolved over the last several billion years in our particular circumstances.

Plants, animals, and fungi are what we consider to be the pinnacle of evolution. But why wouldn’t there be more categories, beings outside of our terrestrial taxonomy? Is it possible that we would consider such beings that fall outside of our definitions of organism as supernatural, angels, or fairies?

Shamanism is the oldest human spirituality on the planet, that we know of. All human spiritualities are subjective constructs of the human experience, including each and every religion.
