Shamanic Truths That Are Backed By Science

Science and Spirituality May Not Be As Opposite As You Think

Researcher Ravi Kopparapu from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center notes that “It’s not a question of ‘if,’ it’s a question of ‘when’ we find life on other planets.” At some point in human history we will find evidence of extraterrestrial life in the universe. At this moment we are looking for exoplanets, planets that circle suns, that sit in a habitable zone that contains water. But in fact life on another planet may use a solvent other than water, and it may utilize molecular chemistry very different than life on our planet, which has evolved over the last several billion years in our particular circumstances.

Plants, animals, and fungi are what we consider to be the pinnacle of evolution. But why wouldn’t there be more categories, beings outside of our terrestrial taxonomy? Is it possible that we would consider such beings that fall outside of our definitions of organism as supernatural, angels, or fairies?

Shamanism is the oldest human spirituality on the planet, that we know of. All human spiritualities are subjective constructs of the human experience, including each and every religion. Therefore they are the not scientific practices. Science, though, is also a human construct, albeit a set of practices that is our best attempt at explaining the world as it truly is, outside of preconceptions. Even math, said to be the most purest of human expressions, could be practiced in different ways amongst extraterrestrial mathematicians.

I’m a writer that studies science and nature, as well as the human experience. I’ve had a deep interest in shamanism over the last twenty odd years, as it is the natural origins of all our religions in some way. No one can deny the huge impact that religion has had on human society, whether it be our violent military tendencies, our seemingly endless fascination with chasing fame, power, and wealth, or the suppression of sexuality and all forms of non-heterosexual love and gender identity. Religion has had a massive and undeniable impact on what it means to be human on the planet today. In some way, shape, or form, shamanism has played a role in all of the major religions, including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
